I want your updates

Introductions happen in the darkness - problem thoughts

12/9/2019

So after several intros that I never hear back on, and using several people in my network for intros I’m fed up. This has to be easier. I finally got frustrated enough to map out an MVP solving this, this month and then through the power of introductions - found something better.
Picture
I:
  • take joy from making intros
  • Have an intro template save in gmail
  • want to hear back on whether it went well or poorly or if I solved someone’s problem.
  • Track how many intro’s I’ve made
  • Collect feedback automatically

To solve this I could:
  • Get a virtual assistant to do the follow up
  • Add in the intro emails that i would like to be updated
  • set a delayed email 2 weeks after into that would follow up automatically

All of these solutions seem ridiculous. You should be able to automate this. As I probably deal 4 intros a month I wouldn’t need a standalone tool - the easiest thing to do would be to cc in a virtual assistant when I intro.

Idea

So instead of a VA which  seems odd - theirs big privacy issues - There could be a digital virtual assistant and all you need to do is cc them in when you make the intro.

Domain intros.cc is available. It could totally be Mattquinn@intros.cc or connection@intros.cc maybe even a friendly name - Alfred@intros.cc

something that isn’t suspicious to everyone else.

The bot (I’m calling it a bot) would then work like this.

Step 1 - It would email both parties and say:

"Hi there I’m Intro.cc a 100% encrypted and secure, email introduction tool.

Matt cc’d me in to track the intro and let him know what the outcomes are, if it was helpful and how you would rate the quality of his network.”

Step 2 - It would follow up in 2 weeks time with each party

“Hi there,

just quickly respond with the corresponding letters and numbers to update Matt on this:

(For example A1, B2, C2 etc… D: he invested $100k )

NOTE: The mode of the last 3 intros they’ve gets sent to Matt so fee free to be honest

Did you connect with XXXXX yet?
A1 - Yes    A2 - No

Was it helpful?
B1 - Yes    B2 - No

Would you introduce this person to others to solve a similar problem?
C1 - Yes    C2 - No

Was there a cool outcome you want to let Matt know about?
D:

Want Matt to see this specific feedback?
E1- Yes    E2 - No
"

Step 3 - Follow up with Matt

"Recent outcomes:
  • He invested $100k
  • I found a new job at her company
  • She gave me the best advice

Intros made in the last:
month - 4
year - 53
all time - 237

Mode of last 3 intro scores

Did you connect with XXXXX yet?
 Yes

Was it helpful?
Yes

Would you introduce this person to others to solve a similar problem?
No
"

MVP
I could build this thing with virtually no code. Buy a domain, slap it on google for work and pretend it’s a bot. Get an actual VA to help with the admin.

Pricing
Cart before horse, but my gut tells me this is something I would make free for like 4 intros a month and charge $20 per year on top.
Could include premium features like emailing the bot to set up the intro in the first place both as the connector or person that needs a connection.

It would be very Lastpass-esque in positioning. Cost = security.

Market
People I know want/will use this.
  • Self proclaimed Connectors
  • VC’s, Angels, Investment people
  • Accelerator staff
  • People who work in networks
  • Founders, CEOs, etc

Easier way to look is assume 2 people at every subjectively decent business need this tool. That will allow for companies that don’t care and small but potent orgs through to large orgs. Also assume 1 in 2 need to pay.

In the "Connected Small Businesses US - Commissioned by Google” report - 20% of small businesses are “advanced”.

Advanced definition
  • Business uses date from its website to analyze customer trends and inform business decisions
  • More likely to have a mobile app to enable customer engagement
  • Uses sophisticated online marketing tools such as search engine strategies and video advertising

Rough market size

30.2 million total US businesses
5.7 million total UK businesses

36M businesses * 20% = 7.2M businesses

7.2M * 1 people * $20 = $144M per year

I am assuming all these people care. They don’t. The tool would need to satisfy other jobs to fill this market. Definitely money in the product though.

Enter bridge

Whilst ranting about this on twitter - my friend Ryan into'd me to Connor Murphy who happens to be working on an even more powerful tool (satisfying other jobs) Bridge.

This thing is gonna change the way we do intro's folks. Sign up for the waiting list here.
For better or for worse you can follow me over at twitter as I continue to document my journey.
