failures

"Improvement at anything is based on thousands of tiny failures, and the magnitude of your success is based on how many times you’ve failed at something. If someone is better than you at something, then it’s likely because she has failed at it more than you have. If someone is worse than you, it’s likely because he hasn’t been through all of the painful learning experiences you have"

Our failures are real, our failures count, when we hold success as a binary outcome - everything we did, every tear we shed, every drop we sweated, every year we gave up is worthless.
Failures are my stepping stones to success and from now on will be treated as such.

High level:
  • I live in Central Park, Denver
  • It is a neighborhood of 40k people and rapidly growing
  • We have a collection of small businesses and chains that exist here
  • There are no good local marketing channels
  • I tried to build a local media empire enabled by AI agents - foundationally through a weekly newsletter of events and interviews
More notes:
  • We ran for 3 months
  • Grew subscriber base to 300
  • Very hard to grow
  • Very hard to monetize
  • Consumed a lot of time
  • We experimented with all sorts of content
  • Many neighbors relied on us for event updates
  • AI agents broke
Why it didn't work:
  • Took a lot of time
  • Events had to be manually curated
  • Neighbors would not refer other neighbors
  • Not worth the time input at that time
Glimmers of hope:
  • Businesses loved to be interviewed
  • I built many local ties
  • Several parents highlighted that it took the work out of organizing family events
  • Very clear there is not a central event listing/API - potential for future

    Continually in progress

If you've failed, and you want to talk about it but no one "gets it" or want's to talk to you about it. I'm here.

If not, take 10 seconds for yourself, breathe deep, watch the water - and let's jump in.

Either way I would fully recommend reading "When Smart People Fail".
